“The waterer is the big plus,” he said. “The cattle prefer the waterers to the stream.”
Unlike the stream, the water in the waterer never dries up and since the water always flows, it never freezes.
Each field has its own waterer providing year-round fresh, clean water.
One place along the stream yet to be fenced is not used by the cattle, he said. “We are fortunate to have several good springs feeding the waterers,” said Mrs. Anderson.
Koi, fish from Zetts fish hatchery in West Virginia (just north of Winchester), keeps the waterer free of algae. They lost several koi to a heron, they suspect.
