On occasion, I have seen sassafras trees that glowed with a curious autumnal shade I can only describe as burnt orange.
It won’t be long now. Sept. 22 was the first day of autumn; from now until just before Christmas, light will seep from the day as darkness seems to move in and clutch like a vise. The first frost in October will bring out the vivid color of the sassafras.
