Migraine headaches go far beyond the ordinary, run-of-the-mill headache induced by traffic jams, overbearing bosses or unruly children. There is some excellent news for migraine sufferers. The latest research indicates that the more sexually active you are, the fewer headaches you’re going to develop. (I think I feel one coming on right now.)

What about hiccups?

“Drink a glass of water upside down,” said Joana Escobar, exchange student from Brazil.

If you’re like me, you’re struggling to understand how you could actually drink the water if you’re standing on your head, but Joana said that you take a mouthful of water and then place your head between your knees like they show you in those airline videos about what to do in case your plane is crashing.

“But,” she cautioned, “it’s never worked for me.”

The subject of hiccups, for reasons unfathonable to me, drew a large and vocal series of suggestions.

“Hold your breath,” said one.

“Take ten small sips of water,” said another.

“Have someone come up behind you and go ‘BOO!’* reported a third.

“Take a spoonful of sugar,” added someone else.
